Thurmont Kountry Kitchen has been a family staple since opening its doors to communities in and around Maryland in 1984. Our goal is to make you feel right at home from the moment you walk into our family-owned and operated restaurant. Whether you are stopping in for your morning fuel or want to sit down for a delicious dinner with your loved ones, our staff will ensure your cravings are satisfied, and your soul is full after every visit!

The Beginnings

Thurmont Kountry Kitchen was born in 1984, turning Pat Ridenour’s dream into a reality. On February 16th, together with her husband, Roger, they opened their first restaurant in Thurmont, a quaint town located in Frederick County, MD! After the eatery’s initial success, Pat & Roger decided to purchase the building in 1986.

Our Expansion

The 1990s saw us begin big-scale renovations in our building; a brand-new office and additional storage space allowed us to operate at a larger capacity. Our continued success inspired us to revamp and expand our kitchen in 1999 as we were getting ready for the new millennium!

The Rise to Fame Of Our Broasted Chicken

We kicked off the turn of the millennium with even more expansions; our dining room became ampler, allowing us to accommodate more customers into the place that had now become our second home. The purchase of a new chicken broaster launched us into broasted chicken stardom and our efforts were rewarded when, in 2005, The Broaster Company awarded us the Broasted Chicken Award. This victory led us to acquire a second broaster in 2006!

A New Business Venture

After nearly 30 years of a successful operation under Pat and Roger, their daughter, Sherry, and her husband, Rob, didn't want to see a well-loved community favorite shutter after their passing. With hard work, dedication, and a dream, Sherry and Rob purchased her family's restaurant and kept the grill hot, continuing to serve up fan favorites without a hitch. And although 2020 was a year filled with surprises, Thurmont Kountry Kitchen was named a finalist for "Best Community-Oriented Business" and "Best Place To Eat With Kids" at Frederick News Post Best of Best!

Renovations & Awards

In 2020, both dining areas underwent remodels to introduce a new, fresher vibe into the restaurant. Our community’s continued support granted us yet another honor: we were named finalists for the 2021 Frederick News-Post Best of Best award in the categories “Best Place To Work For” and “Best Fried Chicken”.

Award Season Continues

Today, we continue to proudly amass awards and serve delicious homemade meals to all our patrons. We recently received recognition as the “Best Hole In The Wall Spots For Fried Chicken (Best Chicken In Maryland)”. We were presented the “You Make Thurmont Proud Award” and “Community Heart Award”. We owe all these successes to our loyal customers, from those who were here from day one to our latest additions to the family; thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We are very excited to introduce our new Thurmont Kountry Kitchen Catering Van!

Do you accept reservations?

Yes, you can make reservations by giving us a call! We take reservations year-round except for Colorfest weekend (the 2nd weekend in October).

Can we rent out the place for an event?

Let us be your restaurant of choice to celebrate small gatherings with your loved ones. Our back dining room is available for small parties of up to 25 people.
